I thought that after two weeks of school holidays, that right now my kids would be well rested, happy, recharged and emotionally stable... boy was I WRONG! There have been more tears, more bickering and more attitude in the last two weeks than ever before - from BOTH of them - whats going on?? From talking to other mums, its not just my lot. But for the record, I'm talking: - Eye rolling when I ask a simple question - Emotional because the weather has cooled down and I didn't dig out their winter PJ's yet - Warning them that ipad time is almost over, and then tears when the time is up - Attitude and grumpiness when asked to help out with basic household chores - Bickering and fighting whenever they are in each other's company - Bursting into tears over the slightest little thing - Talking back Is it a full moon? Is there something in the water?? Are your kids going through this too? Whats going on??!! A cake smash is such a fun way to celebrate turning one! Little Gabriel came to the studio recently for his Mickey Mouse themed portrait session - and boy did we have some fun! You can see from these images just how much of a great time we all had - the laughter was contagious and Gabriel and his big sister Aria had a ball tucking into that beautiful Mickey Mouse cake! Mum and dad joined in the fun too, everyone loves cake, right? We then headed outside for a bathtub clean up - bubbles galore and Gabriel loved splashing the water and suds... Thanks Jasmine and Rhys for asking me to share this fun day with you! If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

Confession - its been 12 months since my last hair cut. My hair grows so slowly, and is so fine, that I can usually get away with many months between hairdresser visits. But I always know when my hair is getting TOO long, because it simply lives in a permanent pony tail. Also, I start leaving trails of random loose hair everywhere. In the bathroom, on my back ("IS THERE A HAIR ON ME?") and apparently, in every single meal that I cook for my husband. So it was long overdue for a chop. Unfortunately, I went a bit too short this time, shorter than I wanted, anyway. Hubby likes it a bit longer, and so it took him a few days to mention it - no doubt choosing his words wisely before saying anything. Master 6 isn't a fan either. He looked at me in despair - "Mummy? Why did you cut all your hair off?" "Um because I wanted to! Why, don't you like it?" He shook his head shyly, and looked sad. Miss 8 cant understand why ANYONE would want to cut their hair - doesn't everyone want long long hair like Rapunzel? Oh well - given the speed in which my hair grows, it should be looking just about right in 3-4 months time! I'm lucky enough to get to meet some beautiful people in my job, and Natalie, Tim and their family were no exception! I LOVE LOVE LOVE doing maternity/newborn sessions - watching your family grow, being part of creating those memories and being able to document that for you - well its pretty special to be a part of. Natalie left some kind words in a Facebook review: "Highly Recommend Hilary, she is the most loveliest person and the most brilliant Photographer. Our family had the most amazing time building memories getting these photos taken. Thank you Hilary for delivering such perfect photos and memories of our beautiful family. We will be back for some updated pics in years to come" Here are some faves from the maternity session here at Tamborine. And then little Maisy Jae was here! Just 7 days old on the day of her in-home session, she was an absolute dream to work with and did whatever I asked of her and more! Her big brother and sister did a great job of helping mum look after her too. What a gorgeous family! I remember a few years ago, when we first heard that the Gold Coast was going to be hosting the Commonwealth Games, we talked about how crazy it would be knowing that our kids would be EIGHT and SIX years old when we took them to the events. It seemed unfathomable at the time, and yet here we are... We put our bids in for two events, and we were lucky enough to score tickets for both. We chose preliminaries rather than finals, and day events, thinking we'd have better luck getting those tickets. Our first event was last Friday at the Artistic Gymnastics - miss 8 was SO excited!! Mr 6... well not so much. When we got home that night, we asked them: "What was the best part of the day?" Miss 8 - watching all the gymnasts! Mr 6 - going on the train (haha) Our next event is tomorrow (Friday) and we are seeing the Athletics! We are most looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere, although I have some trepidation about sitting in the sun all day, and the long queues for the toilets ;) Have you been to see any events? The arrival of a new family member is always cause for celebration - and updating your family portraits is a lovely way to do that! Rochelle and her family came to Tamborine recently for a mix of studio and outdoor portraits, so that we could achieve two very different looks for their session. Baby Tyler was just a few weeks old in this session - how cute is he in his little outfit? After a few little newborn images in the studio, we ventured out into the beautiful afternoon light to capture some more family memories. Here are a few of the favourites from the day. |
